PROJECT 1 - The Arts

21st Century Music Lab: Audio Production Program

Targeted Students - Grades 6-12

Program Summary:
An existing classroom will be equipped to become a music creation studio. This program will afford all Milton students, grades 6 -12, the opportunity to compose and produce music through state of the art technology. Students with limited prior music experience will easily find their potential to be creative and innovative in an authentic learning environment. Offsite field studies and artists in residence will further enhance this program.

Resources: (10) computers, (10) synthesizers, microphones, cables, headphones, sound manipulation software, artist in residence, offsite field studies, transportation.

Evaluation: Students will be able to apply technical knowledge and skills to produce sound recordings.

PROJECT 2 - S.T.E.M.

Aquaponics: A Closed Sustainable Ecosystem

Targeted Students - Grades 8-12

Program Summary:
Aquaponics is a food production system that combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water)

in a symbiotic environment. This system feeds plants (hydroponics) with animal waste nutrients (aquaculture) and then purifies the water to continue the life cycle of the plants and animals.  An existing greenhouse will be equipped with aquaponic units for students to study the symbiotic relationship between fish and plants. Student teams of five will also study aquaponics using student kits. Offsite field studies could include hydroponic farms and aquaponic projects in PA.

Resources: (3) aquaponic systems, (40) student aquaponic kits, (40) student water purification kits, systems supplies, fish, plants, professional development, curriculum, software, offsite field studies, transportation.

Evaluation: Students will be able to construct and maintain an
aquaponic system.
